Viva will also feature two freefall slides (The Rush and The Drop), as well as a three-level go-kart racetrack, which it says will be the largest at sea. Now there is another ship to start getting excited about — Norwegian Viva. The new ship from Norwegian Cruise Line was officially announced today.

They are also often less expensive to sail on, on a per-day basis. Over the weekend, the pop star fulfilled her role as godmother of the new cruise ship Norwegian Prima, christening it in Reykjavik, Iceland. The ship is the first in Norwegian's new Prima category, the cruise line's new vessel class in nearly a decade, designed to bring new levels of entertainment, dining, and luxury to the brand. Meet Norwegian Aqua, the latest evolution of our innovative Prima Class.

At the returning guest-favorite Indulge Food Hall, a new eatery, Planterie, will offer plant-based bowls and other healthy options. Located on deck eight, Planterie’s menu will include dishes such as the Southwest Bowl with smoked tempeh and the Mediterranean Goddess Bowl filled with delicious, spiced vegetables, tabbouleh and honey-roasted carrots. Offering indoor and outdoor seating, Indulge Food Hall will boast a brand-new design by New York-based firm, Rockwell Group, with 10 food stations drawing inspiration from international food marketplaces from around the world. Notable architectural features include deep wood accents; gold and metal furnishings; and warm yet colorful tones that flow seamlessly throughout the venue. Within The Haven, guests will enjoy unparalleled luxury with exclusive 24-hour butler service, an outdoor spa with a glass-walled sauna and cold room, an aft-facing infinity pool, dedicated sundeck, and more. Norwegian's older ships, in many cases, are about half the size of the line's newer ships and lack many of the above features.

Repeat perfect moments on Norwegian Encore — tailor-made for “Again! Smaller than previous Breakaway-class vessels, Prima and Viva seem to represent a move in the fleet toward more of a luxurious experience. All told, NCL says Viva will be 965 feet long, 142,500 gross tons, and hold 3,219 guests at double occupancy. The cruise line also says it will offer the largest inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms in the fleet. The Haven accommodations are some of our largest suites ever and include our first new three-bedroom suite in 15 years, and the public areas and suites were designed by Piero Lissoni, one of Italy’s preeminent designers.

Major Differences Between Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL)
Right now, the newest Norwegian cruise ship is Norwegian Viva, which debuted in August. It's the second ship in Norwegian's new Prima Class of vessels, which began debuting in 2022 with the arrival of Norwegian Prima. Beyond that, Norwegian Prima will also feature high-design public spaces like the Mandara Spa with a two-story waterfall, as well as high-tech ones like Galaxy Pavilion, where you'll find virtual reality experiences and simulators, including a TopGolf option. The Viva will also come with some features that will reduce the environmental impact of the vessel.
Good Deal? Everything to Know About Norwegian’s “Free At Sea” Sale

While we didn’t stay in The Haven, we were invited to eat in the restaurant and I was given a quick tour of the facilities. The only thing I didn't get to see is any of The Haven suites, some of which have private hot tubs on the balconies. Everything we ate at the food hall was excellent, although I especially enjoyed the Indian food. Having expected to be limited to a buffet on a cruise, it was great to be able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast or a more indulgent dinner in the a la carte restaurant whenever we wanted.
For context, this was the first time I had been on a cruise line, having only taken the Hurtigruten coastal voyage before on the relatively small MS Vesterålen. Take a peek inside Norwegian Cruise Line’s brand new vessel Norwegian Prima, which will be heading for Norway during the summer months. The Aqua Slidecoaster will span three decks and each track is different as they wrap around the ship’s funnel. Use this guide to help you pick which spot to visit on your next cruise. Start with a hot-stone massage, one of over 50 specialty treatments offered by our well-trained massage therapists. Then unwind in the Thermal Suite with a steam or a dip in the Vitality Pool.

The series is destined to massively expand Norwegian's footprint in the cruise business and, if all goes according to plan, significantly transform the brand. Assuming it doesn't retire any of its older ships over the next few years, it will grow to 23 ships by 2028 with the addition of four more Prima Class vessels. For now, there are only two vessels in the class that you can sail — the recently unveiled Norwegian Viva and Norwegian Prima. All four of these coming ships, including Norwegian Aqua, will be somewhat bigger than the first two vessels in the series to allow for more cabins and public areas. The last two ships in the series will also be expanded to accommodate new, bigger fuel tanks that can hold methanol — a cleaner-burning type of fuel.
Perhaps the most notable of the ‘other' facilities were the slides and the spa. I actually preferred the Vibe Beach Club on Deck 17 to the main pool. It was generally quieter and although there wasn't a pool, there were two hot tubs. As I already mentioned, the bar there was one of my favourites, too. Unfortunately, the same tech problems we experienced in the Food Hall occurred here too.
As a sister ship of the upcoming Norwegian Prima, Viva is the second ship announced in the Prima class. Throughout the pandemic, cruise lines and shipyards have continued their work on new vessels, bringing new ships to market. Ships like Carnival’s Mardi Gras and Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas have reached completion. Others such as Norwegian Prima and Carnival Jubilee have been announced and started work. In addition to the race track, Norwegian Viva also features a 10-deck dry slide, dubbed "The Drop."

Welcome aboard the all-new Norwegian Viva, the next stunning ship in a brand-new class, designed for you to live life to the fullest. Stay connected to the ocean with experiences that bring you closer to the horizon. Stretch out, way out, in our most spacious accommodations to date.
